1939 In 1939, with the death of Fr. Souvay the day before, the box containing the name of the confrere to be designated Vicar Genral is opened. Fr. Edward Robert, first assistant, is named and, due to the Second World War, will remian VG until 1947 when Fr. William Slattery is elected Superior General.
