Oh\u00a0! non, vous ne pouviez pas avoir \u00e0 m\u2019annoncer une nouvelle plus affligeante que celle de la mort de Louis. Qu\u2019avais-je de plus cher parmi les hommes que ce pauvre fr\u00e8re\u00a0? Je suis inconsolable. Mon c\u0153ur est d\u00e9chir\u00e9\u00a0; des ruisseaux de larmes ne cessent de couler de mes yeux\u00a0; j\u2019en arrose tous les jours les autels et le dernier signe de tendresse que m\u2019a donn\u00e9 ce cher fr\u00e8re, la lettre qu\u2019il \u00e9crivit en partant de l\u2019\u00eele Bourbon, le 30 mars, peu de jours avant sa mort. Ah\u00a0! mon bien-aim\u00e9 fr\u00e8re, depuis bient\u00f4t un an, ton corps est enseveli dans les profonds ab\u00eemes de la mer, et ton \u00e2me repose dans le sein de la divinit\u00e9. D\u00e9dommage-nous de notre douleur par ta bienheureuse protection, et obtiens \u00e0 ceux qui te pleurent la gr\u00e2ce de partager un jour ta gloire et ton bonheur. Je ne doute pas que Louis ne jouisse d\u00e9j\u00e0 de la gloire c\u00e9leste, et dans cette pens\u00e9e je me dis\u00a0: Quare tristis es, anima mea, et quare conturbas me<\/em> ?<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> Mais la nature\u00a0!… Oui, mon tr\u00e8s cher oncle, vous avez pr\u00e9par\u00e9 en Louis un \u00e9lu au Seigneur. Au moins vous n\u2019aurez pas perdu toutes les peines que vous avez bien voulu vous donner pour nous. Apr\u00e8s avoir men\u00e9 une vie ang\u00e9lique, sous vos auspices, et avoir puis\u00e9 \u00e0 la source l\u2019esprit de son \u00e9tat, d\u00e9vor\u00e9 de z\u00e8le pour le salut des \u00e2mes, il s\u2019est \u00e9lanc\u00e9 \u00e0 travers les mers, cherchant la mort des martyrs. Il n\u2019a trouv\u00e9 que celle d\u2019un ap\u00f4tre. Que ne suis-je trouv\u00e9 digne d\u2019aller remplir la place qu\u2019il laisse vacante\u00a0! que ne puis-je aller expier mes p\u00e9ch\u00e9s par le martyre apr\u00e8s lequel son \u00e2me innocente soupirait si ardemment\u00a0?
