{"id":109577,"date":"2014-04-12T09:37:33","date_gmt":"2014-04-12T07:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/?p=109577"},"modified":"2016-07-10T17:45:39","modified_gmt":"2016-07-10T15:45:39","slug":"palm-sunday-jose-antonio-pagola-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/palm-sunday-jose-antonio-pagola-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Palm Sunday (Jos\u00e9 Antonio Pagola)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>Nothing could stop him<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Baptist<\/strong>\u2019s execution was not just by chance.\u00a0 A wide-spread idea among the Jewish people is that the destiny awaiting a prophet is misunderstanding, rejection, and all too often, death.\u00a0 Probably, Jesus reckoned early on with the possibility of his meeting a violent end.\u00a0 Jesus was not suicidal nor was he looking for martyrdom.\u00a0 He never wanted suffering for either himself or anyone else.\u00a0 He dedicated his life to fight it in sickness, injustice, marginalization and hopelessness.\u00a0 He lived wholly committed to \u201cseeking God\u2019s kingdom and his justice,\u201d that more dignified and happy world for everybody, which the Father seeks.<\/p>\n<p>If he accepts persecution and martyrdom, it is out of <strong>faithfulness<\/strong> to the project of God who does not want to see his sons and daughters suffer.\u00a0 Hence, Jesus does not run toward death, nor does he turn back.\u00a0 He does not flee in the face of threats, nor does he modify or soften his message.<\/p>\n<p>He could have easily avoided execution.\u00a0 It would have been enough for him to keep quiet and not insist on things that could upset people in the temple or in the palace of the Roman prefect.\u00a0 But he did not do so.\u00a0 He continued on his way.\u00a0 <strong>He would rather be executed than betray his conscience and be unfaithful to the project of God, his Father<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He learned to live in a climate of insecurity, conflicts and accusations<\/strong>.\u00a0 Day by day he kept reaffirming his mission and went on announcing his message clearly.\u00a0 He dared to spread it not just in remote Galilean villages, but even in the dangerous surroundings of the temple.\u00a0 Nothing stopped him.<\/p>\n<p>He will die faithful to the God in whom he has always trusted.\u00a0 He will keep welcoming everyone, even sinners and the unwanted.\u00a0 If they end up rejecting him, he will die as an \u201cexcluded,\u201d but he will confirm with his death what his whole life has been about: \u00a0<strong>complete trust in a God who neither rejects anyone nor excludes anybody from his forgiveness<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>He will continue seeking God\u2019s kingdom and his justice, identifying himself with the poorest and the most scorned<\/strong>.\u00a0 If someday they execute him by crucifixion, a punishment reserved for slaves, he will die as the poorest and most scorned, but his death will seal forever his faith in a God who wants the salvation of human beings from all that enslaves them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We followers of Jesus discover the ultimate Mystery of being, made flesh in his love and utmost commitment to human beings<\/strong>.\u00a0 In the love of this crucified man is God himself who identifies himself with all those who suffer, crying out against all injustices and forgiving all executioners of all times.\u00a0 One can believe in this God or not, but one cannot make fun of him.\u00a0 We Christians trust in him.\u00a0 Nothing will stop him in his endeavor to save his children.<\/p>\n<p><b>J<\/b><b>os\u00e9 Antonio Pagola<\/b><\/p>\n<p>April 13, 2014<br \/>\nPalm Sunday (A)<br \/>\nMatthew 26, 14 \u2013 27, 66<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nothing could stop him The Baptist\u2019s execution was not just by chance.\u00a0 A wide-spread idea among the Jewish people is that the destiny awaiting a prophet is misunderstanding, rejection, and all too often, death.\u00a0 Probably, &#8230;
