{"id":109531,"date":"2014-03-01T07:17:17","date_gmt":"2014-03-01T06:17:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/?p=109531"},"modified":"2016-07-10T17:31:02","modified_gmt":"2016-07-10T15:31:02","slug":"eighth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-jose-antonio-pagola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/eighth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-jose-antonio-pagola\/","title":{"rendered":"Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Jos\u00e9 Antonio Pagola)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b><i>No to the idolatry of money<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong>Money<\/strong>, turned into an absolute idol, is for Jesus the greatest enemy of the world that God wants, a world that is more worthy of human beings and where there is justice and solidarity.\u00a0 It has now been twenty centuries since the Prophet from Galilee strongly denounced the worship of Money as the greatest obstacle Humanity faces in its march toward to a life of fellowship that is in keeping with human dignity.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus\u2019 logic is compelling:\u00a0 \u201cYou cannot serve God and Mammon.\u201d\u00a0 <strong>God cannot reign in a world and be Father of all, without demanding justice for those who are excluded from a dignified life.<\/strong>\u00a0 That is why those who, dominated by a craving to accumulate wealth, foster an economy that excludes the weakest, and abandons them to hunger and misery, cannot work for that more human world that God wants.<\/p>\n<p>What is happening with Pope Francis is surprising.\u00a0 While the media and the social networks circulating on the internet inform us down to the minutest details about the smallest gestures of his admirable personality, his most urgent cry to all Humanity is concealed in a shameful way: \u00a0<strong>\u201cNo to an economy of exclusion.\u00a0 Such an economy kills.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However Francis does not need long arguments or deep analyses to expound his thinking.\u00a0 <strong>He knows how to summarize his indignation in clear and expressive words that could serve as the opening of any TV newscast<\/strong> or the headline of the news in any country.\u00a0 Here are just a few examples.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHow can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?
