Recorded in the epilogue of John\u2019s gospel is an account of the risen Jesus\u2019 meeting with his disciples on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.\u00a0 It is written at the same time that Christians are living difficult moments of trial and persecution:\u00a0 some are renouncing their faith.\u00a0 The narrator wants to rekindle the faith of his readers.\u00a0 Night is approaching and the disciples go out to fish.\u00a0 The Twelve are not there.\u00a0 The group broke up at their Teacher\u2019s crucifixion.\u00a0 They are again with their boats and nets, which they had left behind to follow Jesus.\u00a0 Everything has ended.\u00a0 They are alone once again.<\/strong><\/p>\n Fishing turns out a complete failure.<\/b>\u00a0 The narrator underscores it strongly:\u00a0 \u201cSo they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.\u201d\u00a0 They are returning with empty nets.\u00a0 Is not this the experience of many Christian communities that see how weakened are their strength and their capacity to evangelize?<\/p>\n Frequently, our efforts in the midst of an indifferent society hardly get results.\u00a0 We too verify that our nets are empty.\u00a0 The temptation to discouragement and hopelessness comes easy.<\/b>\u00a0 How do we sustain and revive our faith?<\/p>\n
