{"id":153908,"date":"2018-01-09T20:29:15","date_gmt":"2018-01-09T19:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/?p=153908"},"modified":"2018-01-09T20:29:15","modified_gmt":"2018-01-09T19:29:15","slug":"2-ot-dizonreyes-lamb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/2-ot-dizonreyes-lamb\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Ross Reyes Dizon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Lamb of God who Takes away the Sins of the World<\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.\u00a0 Happy are those who, accepting his invitation, enter into communion with him.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Once again, John the Baptist announces that Jesus is the Lamb of God.\u00a0 Because of this second announcement, two disciples of John take interest in Jesus and they follow him.\u00a0 Later, they have communion with him.<\/p>\n<p>The image of the lamb sends us back to the lamb that the Hebrews slaughter and eat the night of their departure from Egypt.\u00a0 They sprinkle the blood of the lamb on the lintel and doorpost of their houses.\u00a0 And the blood is a mark, so that the Lord may save them from the destructive plague.<\/p>\n<p>The same image refers also the Servant who submits, though harshly treated, and opens not his mouth.\u00a0 He is silent like a lamb led to the slaughter.<\/p>\n<p>So then, there is indication that salvation really lies in Jesus.\u00a0 He embodies freedom.\u00a0 He is the Suffering Servant who justifies many because he bears their guilt.\u00a0 Surrendering himself to death and counting himself among the wicked, Jesus takes away the sins of many.\u00a0 And he wins forgiveness for their sins.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>There is indication likewise of what it means to follow the Lamb and become intimate with him.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>After hearing the invitation, \u201cCome, and you will see,\u201d the two disciples of John go and see where Jesus is staying.\u00a0 And they stay with him, which happens at about four in the afternoon.\u00a0 This is the same hour when, on the first evening of the Passover, lambs for the Passover meal are sacrificed.<\/p>\n<p>There is suggestion, then, that Christian discipleship leads to the cross.\u00a0 It is sharing in the sacrifice of Christ, our paschal lamb\u2014they do not break any of his bones (Jn 19, 36; Ex 12, 46).\u00a0 The cross is where Jesus stays and where we Christians know him intimately.\u00a0 There is no better place where we can be, then, than at the foot of the cross (SV.EN I:155).<\/p>\n<p>And happy are those who attain communion with Christ, those who become one Spirit with him.\u00a0 They get to know a new life of justice and mercy that is fuller and worthier of human beings.\u00a0 They change in such a way that they get new names.\u00a0 And they spread the word they hear and, in that way, they help others get better.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><em>Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us and give us peace.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>14 January 2018<br \/>\n2nd Sunday in O.T (B)<br \/>\n1 Sam 3, 3b-10. 19; 1 Cor 6, 13c-15a. 17-20; Jn 1, 35-42<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lamb of God who Takes away the Sins of the World Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.\u00a0 Happy are those who, accepting his invitation, enter into communion &#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/2-ot-dizonreyes-lamb\/\" class=\"more-link\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":151052,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_dont_email_post_to_subs":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","default_image_id":0,"font":"","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[93],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-153908","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-homilies-and-reflections-year-b"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.3 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Second Sunday in Ordinary Time (Ross Reyes Dizon) - We are Vincentians<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
