Authentic Face of God and Religion<\/em><\/p>\n

Jesus reveals the invisible God.\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 true brothers and sisters, then, cannot but reveal the authentic face of God and religion.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Only-Begotten Son is the exact image of the invisible God who dwells in unapproachable light.\u00a0 He lives eternally and intimately with him.\u00a0 But since he became flesh, he dwells among us.\u00a0 Through him, then, we have access in one Spirit to the Father.\u00a0 And he is the Messiah who tells us everything and gives us the Spirit of truth.\u00a0 So, through Jesus, too, we can worship the Father in an authentic way, in Spirit and truth.<\/p>\n

Those the Spirit guides to all truth reveal God\u2019s authentic face.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

God, by his grace, predestines us to be the image of his Son.\u00a0 He offers us this destiny, so that Jesus may be the Firstborn among many brothers and sisters.<\/p>\n

To be Jesus\u2019 brothers and sisters, then, to be Christians, means to be his image.\u00a0 And since he reveals God\u2019s authentic face, true Christians do the same.\u00a0 This implies that they have found Jesus and know him intimately.<\/p>\n

That is because, ultimately, only those who know Jesus have the urge to proclaim him.\u00a0 Andrew and Philip prove this (Jn 1, 41. 45).\u00a0 So, too, do Peter and John (Acts 4, 20).<\/p>\n

Do we, like these ones who know Jesus, give authentic witness?<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Do we so wonder at what we hear about Jesus that we speak about him to others?\u00a0 Do we keep \u201call these things,\u201d pondering them in our hearts?\u00a0 That is, do we keep them, so that their power may make our lives more human<\/a>?<\/p>\n

And God hides \u201cthese things\u201d from the learned.\u00a0 They know the Messiah\u2019s birthplace.\u00a0 But they do not look for him; it is enough for them to know.<\/p>\n

God hides \u201cthese things\u201d from Herod also.\u00a0 Like some leaders today, Herod looks out only for himself and his interests.\u00a0 He keeps saying, \u201cI and no one else.\u201d\u00a0 Duplicity, lies and arrogance are part of his make-up.\u00a0 And his aggression toward every rival, authentic or not knows no bounds.<\/p>\n

But God reveals to the Magi what he hides from the proud and the learned.\u00a0 That is because the Magi seek perseveringly.\u00a0 They humbly admit their lack of knowledge.\u00a0 And because God reveals them \u201cthese things,\u201d they surely are among the childlike.<\/p>\n

They see the child, then, the King, of whom they are coheirs.\u00a0 Not in the royal palace, with the nobles.\u00a0 Nor in the temple, with the high priests.\u00a0 They see him in a house, with his mother.\u00a0 They worship the Poor Little Thing, and they offer him gifts.\u00a0 Theirs is \u201cthe true religion\u201d (SV.EN XI:190<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Lord Jesus, grant that we may see and worship you in an authentic way in the poor.\u00a0 Teach us to give you and them gifts.\u00a0 Open our eyes at the Breaking of the Bread, so that we may discern your Body in the needy.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n
