Spirit of Signs, Life as well as Truth<\/em><\/p>\n

At the request of Jesus, God gives the Holy Spirit to those who love Jesus.<\/h3>\n

First, the Spirit remains\u00a0with those who prove they love Jesus by keeping his commandments.\u00a0 As the presence of the Ascended one who has become the Giver of gifts, the Spirit equips believers for greater works.<\/p>\n

Yes, those clothed with\u00a0him do greater works. The signs they do amaze others. These, then, accept the word of God.\u00a0 Afterwards, they receive the Spirit, through the prayerful laying of hands, and become witnesses of Jesus.<\/p>\n

The Spirit, secondly, brings to life those\u00a0who are dead to sin.\u00a0 They receive him so that they may rise with the one who died for sins.<\/p>\n

Thirdly, the Spirit is the Advocate who\u00a0guides the disciples to all truth.\u00a0 He teaches them the answer to people of good will who ask them to give a reason for their hope.\u00a0 Likewise, he instructs the persecuted because of their faith.\u00a0 With the Spirit comforting them, they do not worry beforehand about what to say or do.<\/p>\n

Indeed, such is the Spirit, and such are those who clothe themselves with him, which begs a few questions.<\/h4>\n

Do our words and works reveal the Spirit?\u00a0 Do we point to Jesus, fixing our gaze on him, breathing his breath in and out?<\/p>\n

St. Vincent de Paul was like that.\u00a0 His being centered in Christ shows in the advices he gave.\u00a0 He reminded Father Portail, \u201cWe live in Jesus Christ by the death of Jesus Christ \u2026\u201d (SV.EN I:276<\/a>).\u00a0 And he told Father Durand, \u201cYou must empty yourself of self in order to clothe yourself with Jesus Christ\u201d (SV.EN I:311<\/a>).\u00a0 Above all, his firm and admirable faith is evident.\u00a0 He spoke continually with God, with Jesus.\u00a0 Even while talking to other people, he kept interjecting:\u00a0 \u201cOh, my God!\u201d; \u201cOh, Savior!\u201d; \u201cBlessed be God!\u201d\u00a0 He did so without affectation; it was the spontaneity of a loving and faithful heart (see Delarue).\u00a0 Besides, with the light of faith, St. Vincent saw Christ in the poor.<\/p>\n

Do we frame the scene<\/a> so that it is most encompassing and penetrating?\u00a0 Are we like Philip?\u00a0 He did not let old biases, which kept Jews and Samaritans apart, carry him away.\u00a0 The complacent attitude, \u201cWe have always done it this way,\u201d did not stop him either (EG<\/em><\/a> 33).<\/p>\n

And could it be that, focused on the right doctrine and strict religious practice, we fail to recognize the time of God\u2019s visit?<\/p>\n

And are we, partakers of the Lord\u2019s Supper, creative, communing with him in the love that is infinitely creative (SV.EN XI:131<\/a>)?<\/p>\n

God, our Father, give us your Spirit so that,\u00a0living as did Jesus, we may become his signs and his witnesses.<\/em><\/p>\n
