{"id":153491,"date":"2017-04-18T20:00:27","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T18:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/?p=153491"},"modified":"2017-04-18T19:50:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-18T17:50:48","slug":"2nd-sunday-easter-rdizonreyes-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/2nd-sunday-easter-rdizonreyes-night\/","title":{"rendered":"2nd Sunday of Easter (Ross Reyes Dizon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Night of peace, mission, faith and clearness<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Granting us peace and entrusting us a mission, the risen Jesus makes the night shine as the day.\u00a0 He thus arouses faith.<\/h3>\n<p>As the night falls, the disciples look for safety in a house with locked doors.\u00a0 That is because they are afraid of fellow Jews who sought the death penalty for Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>Although they already believe or understand Scripture after seeing the empty tomb, Peter and the other disciple still fear, yes.\u00a0 The rest do not take courage even after hearing Mary Magdalen state, \u201cI have seen the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Do they think they know better than to believe a woman?\u00a0 Or do the fishermen know themselves very well?\u00a0 Perhaps they dismiss Mary because they see in her account their own notorious tales about huge catches of fish.\u00a0 Self-distrust can easily lead us to distrust others.<\/p>\n<p>In any case, the disciples want the darkness of night to hide them.\u00a0 They also take cover in a house with locked doors.\u00a0 But neither the night nor the doors stop Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>And Jesus, of course, does not like the dark night to surround us.\u00a0 Coming out of the tomb, he bids us to come out of the tomb of indifferent self-interests.\u00a0 He wants to see us without burdensome remorse and crippling fear tying us down.\u00a0 The Risen One, yes, comes before us to raise us up.<\/p>\n<p>Standing in our midst, Jesus sends the message that we have to put him in the center. That is how we show we are disciples.\u00a0 We should fix our gaze on him so that we may rejoice.\u00a0 Obviously, he reveals himself as the giver of peace, of the mission, of the life-breath from God.<\/p>\n<h4>And the mission of forgiveness and reconciliation implies leaving behind the false security of the night and the lock.\u00a0 The mission demands besides that we exchange \u201csee\u201d for \u201cbelieve.\u201d<\/h4>\n<p>That is because only God can give us the definitive security through Jesus.\u00a0 Unless God guard the city, in vain does the guard keep watch.\u00a0 Without Jesus, we can do nothing, nor will we find true security.\u00a0 With him strengthening us, however, we can do everything.<\/p>\n<p>To leave night behind also means faith in Jesus.\u00a0 He came into the world as light, so that those who believe in him may not stay in the dark.\u00a0 Those who believe in him without seeing are happy.<\/p>\n<p>Blessed, indeed, by the Father are those who recognize clearly the Son\u2019s disfigured face in the poor (cf. <a href=\"http:\/\/via.library.depaul.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1037&amp;context=vincentian_ebooks\">SV.EN XI:26<\/a>).\u00a0 Giving up themselves and their assets for the poor, they recall the one who gave his body up and shed his blood for us.\u00a0 Because they love as Jesus, they are no longer of the night; with him, they pass from death to life. \u00a0And they attain the goal of their faith.<\/p>\n<h4><em>\u00a0Lord, we are all children of the day.\u00a0 Do not let us be of the night again.<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>23 April 2017<br \/>\n2<sup>nd<\/sup> Sunday of Easter (A)<br \/>\nActs 2, 42-47; 1 Pt 1, 3-9; Jn 20, 19-31<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Night of peace, mission, faith and clearness Granting us peace and entrusting us a mission, the risen Jesus makes the night shine as the day.\u00a0 He thus arouses faith.
