{"id":104690,"date":"2012-10-19T04:33:59","date_gmt":"2012-10-19T02:33:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/blog\/twenty-eighth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-rosalino-dizon-reyes-reflection-2\/"},"modified":"2016-07-12T18:27:02","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T16:27:02","slug":"twenty-ninth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-rosalino-dizon-reyes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vincentians.com\/en\/twenty-ninth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-rosalino-dizon-reyes\/","title":{"rendered":"Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Rosalino Reyes Dizon)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>New wine is poured into fresh wineskins (Mk. 2:22\u2014NABRE)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The other apostles are indignant at James and John.\u00a0 Is it because the ten consider the two either hard-hearted or lacking in intelligence that they either do not accept or do not understand the meaning of both the humility preached repeatedly and the passion predicted for the third time?\u00a0 Or is this a case of like poles repelling, alike in ambition, that is?<\/p>\n<p>But the poor are not bothered.\u00a0 They are used to ambitious people keeping in with the right folks.\u00a0 The poor do not grumble even when caught in the crossfire between opposing ambitious parties.\u00a0 They are patiently resigned to how life usually treats them:\u00a0 frequent victims of the inclemency of both weather and the economy; subjected to the tyranny and oppression\u2014so common everybody knows about them\u2014on the part of the rulers and the great ones; powerless before dictatorial and conscienceless capitalism.\u00a0 Says St. Vincent de Paul of the poor:\u00a0 \u201cThey usually remain at peace in the midst of their troubles and miseries\u201d (Coste XII, 171).<\/p>\n<p>But the \u201cusually\u201d of the poor comes from the grace of the extraordinary that God grants to the poor and simple, and which he refuses to the rich and learned who prefer the status quo to something unknown that may deprive them of their comfort and their control of things.\u00a0 The out of the ordinary refers to the greatness there is in servitude, the primacy in slavery, the salvation in perdition, the fullness in self-emptying, the superabundance of grace where sin abounds, the wealth in poverty.\u00a0 These unheard-of and unimaginable paradoxes, discussed in Father Robert P.
